Memorial Service and Exhibition

On the 22nd February 2026 we mark the 82nd anniversary of the collision, over what is now Stanwick Lakes, of the B-17's "June Bug" and "Hell's Angels II".

"June Bug" was from the 384th Bomb Group based at RAF Grafton Underwood, Northamptonshire and "Hell's Angels II" was from the 303rd Bomb Group, based at RAF Molesworth, Cambridgeshire.

Of the twenty young crewmen on the two aircraft, there were just three survivors.

In 2024 Stanwick Lakes raised funding to erect a permanent memorial to the two crews, overlooking the area where the 303rd Bomb Group's aircraft crashed.

We invite you to join us for a short ceremony marking the collision at 9.30am. Meet at the Visitor Centre for 9am, before taking the short walk to the Memorial.

The 384th Bomb Group Museum will be then be hosting an exhibition about the event in the visitor centre for the rest of the day, where you can find out more bout the tragic events of the day and also the history of the 384th Bomb Group, and further updates on the Museum progress.

With a range of hot food and beverages available in the café from 9.30am, and many picturesque walks around the lakes as well as the exhibit, there's plenty to do - we hope to see you there.

Entry to the event is free, normal car parking charges for visitors to Stanwick Lakes apply.
