Thrapston is intertwined with the history of the 384th Bombardment Group, the USAAF and the airfield of Grafton Underwood. Barclays Bank on the Market Place was the source of cash for paying wages, the railway stations in the town were kept busy with regular deliveries of goods and armaments for the base, whilst Thrapston was itself a designated AAF 'base' - Station 584. It was otherwise known as Thrapston Medical Supply Depot and was tasked with the storage and distribution of medical supplies across the the numerous USAAF bases in the vicinity (including Grafton Underwood), and the nearby USAAF Hospital at Lilford Hall - no doubt a non-stop operation.

A traditional date in the calendar of this small market town, the High Street is closed from 2pm and a multitude of activities are laid on for the local community. Our first time of exhibiting here, and with the theme being 'Armed Forces', it's a perfect time to start.
