Fly a B-17 to Grafton Underwood
Between 1943 and 1945, the crews of the 384th Bombardment Group flew from this airfield in B-17 Flying Fortresses. Tell us where you are starting from and we will plot the course back to Station 106 — and fly it.

A B-17G Flying Fortress cruised at about 182 mph, with a range of roughly 2,000 miles and a service ceiling of 35,600 feet. Distances shown are great-circle distances — the route a navigator would plot, not the route your car will take.

Please get in touch before you travel
The museum is run entirely by volunteers, and much of the old airfield sits on private land belonging to the Boughton Estate. We are the only body able to arrange access to those areas. Some parts — the Memorial, the church window and some of the communal sites — can be seen publicly most of the time, but to get the most from your visit, and to be certain someone is here to meet you, please contact us in advance.

By car
Grafton Underwood lies in open countryside between Kettering and Thrapston in North Northamptonshire, reached by minor roads through the surrounding villages. The museum is on Brigstock Road, on the edge of the village. The lanes are narrow in places, so please take your time on the final approach.
By train
Kettering station has direct services from London and the Midlands and is about a ten minute drive from the airfield. Huntingdon is around twenty minutes away. Taxis are readily available from both.
Coming from overseas
Most of our visitors from overseas fly into London Heathrow, Luton, Stansted or Birmingham, then continue by train or hire car. Do write to us before you book, we can help with timings, travel arrangements and station pick-ups. This page has further information on visiting.
Parking & access
When open, there is ample parking on site at the Museum, including facilities for disabled parking. If part of a group visit arriving by minibus or coach, you must notify us of your visit in advance so that suitable arrangements can be put in place.
